Role in the ISU ADVANCE Program

I am the Equity Advisor for the College of Veterinary Medicine, a role I have held since August 1, 2022.

Scholarly Expertise

I am a diagnostic pathologist at the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. In addition to managing diagnostic cases, I participate in collaborative research and teach within the veterinary curriculum. Anatomic pathology and veterinary diagnostics are my passion, and I love to share my enthusiasm with veterinarians, students, and the public.

Research Interests

Most of my research focuses on Mycoplasma diseases of livestock, including exploring pathogenesis, detection and diagnosis, and prevention/treatment. Additionally, as a high-throughput diagnostic laboratory, I am well positioned to identify and characterize emerging infectious disease of swine.

Motivations for Being a Part of ISU ADVANCE

This world is an amazing place, and there are so many fascinating stories to weave together. It makes not just a more beautiful, but sturdier “blanket” when each of those threads is diverse. The veterinary profession is very white and despite having more female than male practitioners, leadership and wealth within the profession is still heavily male-dominated. The world is diverse, and if we do not include more voices, our profession will not have the opportunity to grow. Increased diversity could yield a stronger, more flexible, and more accomplished field, and I want to do my part in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in my college, the university, and the field of veterinary medicine.
