ADVANCE Lectures Program: Call for Proposals

ADVANCE Co-Sponsorship for All Disciplines
(Available throughout the year)
- 10 awards of $300 each to co-sponsor a lecturer in ANY discipline.
- Applications will be accepted and reviewed continuously throughout the year.
- Application should include the proposed Lecturer's curriculum vitae and one paragraph explaining how the Lecturer will broadly meet ADVANCE's mission of increasing the participation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers and making Iowa State an optimal environment for all faculty.
- Departments/potential lecturers will be rated more favorably if they have not previously received an ADVANCE Lecturer award, if the Lecturer supports the mission of ADVANCE, if the Lecturer is a member of an underrepresented group, and if the department has a plan for co-sponsors.
- Lecturers are expected to give a disciplinary lecture and meet formally or informally with women and/or minority graduate students and faculty to share perspective on women and minorities in the STEM fields.

ADVANCE Lectures for STEM Disciplines (filled for 2009-10)
Dr. Muriel Poston, Dean of the Faculty at Skidmore College, 2009 ADVANCE Lectureship Speaker.
- Two competitive awards of $1,000 each for an ADVANCE Lecturer in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
- Deadline for submission is April 15th; applicants will be notified by May 5th.
- Application should include the Lecturer's curriculum vitae and 1-2 paragraphs explaining how the lecturer will broadly meet ADVANCE's mission of increasing the participation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers and making Iowa State an optimal environment for all faculty.
- Departments and potential lecturers will be rated more favorably if they have not previously received an ADVANCE Lecturer award, if the Lecturer supports the mission of ADVANCE, and if the Lecturer is a member of an underrepresented group.
- Lecturers are expected to give a disciplinary lecture, participate in an ADVANCE networking event if time permits, and meet formally or informally with women and/or minority graduate students and faculty to share perspective on women and minorities in the STEM fields.
