On January 10-11, six ISU faculty members attended the Big 12 Workshop on Faculty Recruitment, Retention and Leadership at the University of Oklahoma. Sponsored by OU's ADVANCE Program, the workshop provided training, strategies, and experiences in fostering faculty diversity and lasting institutional change at participating institutions. The ISU faculty team reconvened to share the most important points brought home from the event - and how these lessons might be applied at ISU. Speakers included: David J. Oliver: Introduction and discussion of faculty development and retention, as presented by Patricia Rankin (University of Colorado ADVANCE). Bonita Glatz and Charles Glatz: Reflection on faculty practices, as presented by the University of Michigan's CLRT Players in their play "The Faculty Meeting." Janette Thompson: Discussion of faculty mentoring, as presented by Mark Smith (Purdue University). Thomas Baum: Reflection on institutional change and its impact on individuals' careers, as presented by W. M. Kim Roddis (George Washington University). Martin Spalding: Discussion of the issues raised during the workshop which are most relevant to Iowa State University. Back to events |
