An ADVANCE roundtable discussion.
Leadership of the ISU ADVANCE Program in the focal colleges is provided by Equity Advisors. Leadership of the Collaborative Transformation project in the focal department is provided by the ADVANCE Professors. Brief descriptions of their positions are provided below.
The Equity Advisor plays a central role in implementing the goals of the ISU ADVANCE Program and is the primary leader of efforts at the college level to transform STEM fields for women faculty and faculty of color. The Equity Advisor works with ADVANCE Professors and the Coordinator of the Equity Advisors/ADVANCE Professors working group (EA/AP Coordinator) to ensure consistency in the implementation of the Collaborative Transformation project in the ADVANCE departments. The Equity Advisors serve as resources to the focal departments in their colleges. The Equity Advisor coordinates ADVANCE efforts with other equity efforts in the college (including the College Diversity Committee) and is available for consultation on issues including hiring, mentoring, professional development, and climate. The Equity Advisor serves on the ADVANCE Council, the EA/AP working group, the College Coordinating Council, and works closely with ADVANCE departments as well as other STEM departments in the college. The Equity Advisor is available to meet with the Dean and Associate Deans as requested and to help them assess the needs of the college. The Equity Advisors provide leadership in the development and implementation of ADVANCE workshops and networking events for the college and campus-wide. The ADVANCE Professor plays a central role in implementing the goals of the ISU ADVANCE Program and is the primary leader of department-level transformation activities for STEM women faculty and faculty of color. The ADVANCE Professor works with the department chair and department faculty, leading efforts to identify and sustain needed changes in practices, structures, and policies. ADVANCE Professors are tenured and leaders in their departments. They serve as a resource for the department, and facilitate communication among the PI, the ADVANCE Executive Director, the college Equity Advisor, the ADVANCE Research Director, the EA/AP Coordinator, the focus group facilitator, and key departmental and college administrators. Each ADVANCE Professor also meets periodically with the College Coordinating Council. ADVANCE professors work closely with these groups to ensure proper implementation of the ADVANCE initiative and to provide benchmark and progress data. |
